CALACS L'ESPOIR DES ÎLES
Sexual Assault Prevention and Help Centre
Accueil: Bienvenue
We see the "C" in Calacs - which is integrated into the roof - as a beautiful symbol of refuge, much like two arms open wide. The female symbol clearly shows our attachment to the feminist movement, and we believe it also represents an open door for welcoming and listening to all women. As for the circle, we like to think of it as a tiny figure with a head full of love, and a window through which one can look at a brighter future.
The use of blue / green is a nod to the sea and our insularity, and both colours respectively refer to truth and hope. The logo is an artistic representation of the safe place for exchange and belonging that is the Calacs. In short, it is a reflection of our organization - colorful, gentle, feminine.

Our History
A Local Women-Lead Initiative
The Calacs was officially incorporated on May 16, 2002, and held its first general assembly on June 3, 2002, where 15 women argued the need to set up such an organization on the Islands. Supported by various community organizations from the health and social services network, the Calacs was then certified as an independent community organization on September 13, 2002.
